Online social events will provide students with fun and less structured opportunities to get to know each other. In cases where we have multiple students in a particular area, we can have face-to-face gatherings as well!

Clubs and Activities

Our learning management system provides not only courses, but also the means to interact for many other purposes. We will have numerous clubs and interest groups in which all full-time and part-time students can participate.

Activities may include:

  • Digital Photography/Video Club
  • Chess Club
  • Scuba Diving Club
  • Movies & Music Club
  • Drama Club
  • Art Club
  • Social Action/Human Rights Club
  • And many more, depending on the interests of our students!

Our Creative Writing Club offers students at the GLBTQ Online High
School the opportunity to explore the rich and powerful cultural
history of LGBTQ storytelling, develop their own storytelling voice,
and create an affirming community of writers. Through weekly writing
prompts, discussion topics, and activities we will examine the
transformative power of storytelling and explore the ways in which we
can use it to create a more affirming world for LGBTQ people.

The club will be facilitated by queer author Sassafras Lowrey, and
will feature guest visits by leading LGBTQ authors, artists, and
performers. Students will also have the option of participating in
collaborative projects, culminating in the creation of public blogs,
zines, websites, podcasts, vlogs etc. This club is open to all
students, and participants prior experience will range from folks who
do not consider themselves to be writers, to those experienced with
sharing their stories through written word.

Parent Forums

GLBTQ Online High School provides support to the parents and families of our students as well as the students themselves.

This critical feature of our school provides parents with safe forums to share stories, ideas, solutions and just plain friendship with others that have similar joys, challenges and questions. Parents who are new to the experience of having a GLBTQ teen can solicit advice from other parents or from school staff.

Discussion groups may include:

  • Parents of gays & lesbians
  • Parents of bisexuals
  • Parents of transgender individuals
  • Questioning Youth and their Uncertainty
  • Coming Out as a Family
  • GLBTQ and Religion
  • Health & Wellness

Summer and other activities

Online communities are great, but we understand that opportunities to connect in person are important too!

Future options may include:

  • Canoe trips
  • Scuba lessons and trips
  • Hiking trips
  • City tours

Stay tuned for more information about these options as our plans develop!
